DSL Reports on the ZFNet article, some of there comments are just down right funny.
http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Are-Ad-Blockers-Illegal-87575

There are a lot of comments about how

  • "Its my browser I have the right"
  • "I pay for my broadband connection I don't want to waste it with ads"
  • I would be willing to bet these are the same people downloading music and movies and making some baseless claim that its there right to be able to do so.

The problem here, while I do agree that a lot of ads out there are crap and the music companies are money grubbing fools, being a "vigilante" is not the proper way to go about things.

If a website requires you view there ads to view there content, its there website "They pay for there broadband connection and can waste it with ads". You have the right to "walk" away.

You do not have the right to knee cap the annoying singing bum on the side of the street, You can however call the cops or even just walk away.

This is what we need to do, If we don't feel something is "right" we need to tell the police or our goverment that we are unhappy, We can not go around "knee capping" the RIAA, or websites just because we don't like them or what they do.

You can also vote with one of your most powerful tools, Your feet.. Walk away, Stop purchasing and listening to the music from "corrupt" music companies, Don't visit websites with ads you disagree with.

We keep complaining about the government taking away our rights 1 by 1 but in reality our own actions are slowly giving cause to strip our rights, The different companies wouldn't be able to stand up in court and our government and claim we need laws because people are doing bad things if, get this, "We where not doing bad things". We provide them all the amunition they need to gain support for there bills and crap.

So what do I say about comments like

"I already pay MY BANDWIDTH bills to ATT, Does CNET pay ATT to send me adds? I think not but you bet they still profit over being able to use ATT's network to send adds over for free. Maybe CNET should PAY MY BANDWIDTH bill if they want to use my ISP's bandwidth to send adds, don't ya think?"

I think you need shut up and use your right to not visit CNET at all instead of bitching.. If you don't like the ads on there site here is a novel idea for you "STAY OFF THERE WEBSITE YOU MORON".
