So very true...

This post really can't express enough the importance of balancing cost of living with income. I'm lucky enough to work in Houston where salaries are high and cost is low but I've been offered jobs all over the country that would effectively cut my salary by one half. New York, San Jose, The bay area in general.. the market on the coasts is hot right now, but I don't see many of those jobs being filled.

Finding a job in a low cost area or somewhere you can work remotely is favorable to working for one of the big wigs on the coast. Always always always remember to factor in your costs with the salary to determine if it's an upward move. I've seen several friends move out to Cali for work only to be down and out barely scraping by making $15k-25k more than I do.
