Dropbox invites here!

I have been looking for a decent shared folder system for a while, I even paid for a .mac subscription just for the idrive and for personal stuff it works great but for sharing it pretty much sucks and basically just uses a webdav system which can be slow and problematic.

What was I looking for in such a system?

1. The ability to sync folders across multiple systems
2. The ability to access these folders on and OFFLINE ( I will go into why that is so important later)
3. The ability to share folders with multiple people
4. Backups.. If someone deletes a file I need to be able to recover it

Until I got Dropbox there wasn't a single solution out there that did all that. Dropbox can and it's extremely easy to use.

The 2 biggest failures I ran into most where offline access and backups. OFFLINE access is so useful for so many reasons but the main one is speed. A system that provides OFFLINE access has to keep a local copy which means your not waiting for minutes while your huge presentation gets downloaded.

Beyond that Dropbox does bit level copies so when you make changes only a small portion of the file is transferred which makes there syncs extremely fast.

As to the second failure, backups thats pretty much a no brainer even more so when you are sharing folders between multiple people.. The more hands in the pot the larger chance that it will be spilled.
