The Most Obscure

After reading http://www.tonybibbs.com/ it maybe me think about some of the technologies I have dealt with and its been a lot. Being the only tech person at the company I am at for a while made me the defacto programmer/system admin/tech support/if it is electronic its my job go to guy!

This has lead to some pretty interesting projects with technologies I knew nothing about at the time. Pulling phone stats from our Altigen phone system, Putting together a calendar using data from our Timeforce time clock, Integrating our admin area with Microsoft SBS and LDAP.

Thats all fine and great, I am sure a lot of us have had those types of projects but how about the obscure? Is there something you have done for some odd ball system that was cool but when you mention it people look at you like your insane because they have never even heard of what your talking about?

For me its telemate and its scripting language. Telemate was terminal program back in the day I used to dial into the local bbs (bulletin board system) and play games before MMOG's became popular and I even owned my own 16 line bbs running WorldGroup/Major BBS software at the time.

One of the more popular games was called Major Mud in which according to some online stats I had the highest level priest in the world (god I was a geek). How did people get there? By scripting the game, in my case using telescript through telemate.

So anyway the final point, I agree with Tony, any programmer worth his weight in pop tarts can learn a new language no matter how obscure it might be.
